Acton

Acton, just like its surrounding neighborhoods, is a thriving suburb with a small city charm but with momentum encouraging a steady rise in new housing, business opportunities, and retail development.

About Acton

Acton is an unincorporated community in Shelby County and partially located within Hoover city. It was the coal and mining industry that paved the way for Acton’s development. The town of Acton grew around the coal mines established by Alabama Fuel & Iron. But after a tragic explosion in 1913, the mines closed, and the area was converted into the Riverchase real estate development. The community was most likely named after William Acton, a local businessman who worked in the mining industry. In 1970, the land was developed into Riverchase residential planned community, which in 1980, was annexed to the city of Hoover.
